Welcome! The Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society is a newly-formed group of artists in the State College, Pennsylvania area who are interested in the promotion of the soft pastel medium.

About Us

The Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society was formed in November, 2004 with twelve founding members in attendance. Since that time, the society has continued to grow and its members are dedicated to the following goals: to promote fellowship among members, to raise public awareness of pastel as an artistic medium, to enhance creative painting with pastels, and to offer educational activities that foster growth among members.

Our current members reflect diverse levels of skill and experience. Some are beginners while others are accomplished professionals; some work exclusively with pastels while others work in mixed media, incorporating acrylic and watercolors; some work exclusively on their own while others attend regularly scheduled classes and workshops. Periodically, all members meet to share their work, their techniques, and to enjoy an afternoon of artistic fellowship.

Joining Us

Membership dues are $30 per year. Membership in the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society (CPPS) offers the following benefits:

The society has four regularly scheduled meetings a year. Each meeting has the same format with a business meeting followed by a program. The meetings are on the first Sunday of the months of February, May, August, and November at 1:30 p.m. At the present time the meetings are being held at the Senior Center on Fraser Street in State College, Pennsylvania. In the months when no meeting is scheduled, the group gathers for informal critique sessions, paint outs and other art-related activities.
